ENGINEERING LIBRARY...
The University Sains
Malaysia Library system consists of the following libraries.
-
Main Library in
Minden Campus, Pulau Pinang
-
Media Library at Pusat Teknologi and
Pendidikan Media, Minden Campus, Pulau Pinang.
-
Medical Library
at Kubang Kerian, Kelantan.
-
Engineering Library
at Nibong Tebal, Seberang Perai Selatan, Pulau Pinang.
The Engineering Library first
began its operation at the temporary site in Ipoh, Perak in June 1986. It
shifted to its present premise in November 1989. The Library essentially
serves the University community, with a variety of teaching-learning
resources to support the teaching and research programmed. These facilities
are also extended to certain defined categories of the general public who
need library facilities for personal, professional and career advancement
reasons. They are encouraged to join the library as public members to use
the facilities. The Library holds for some 61,000 volumes, of which the bulk
of it is engineering fields. Our growing collections include books,
journals, maps, CD ROM and a whole range of media materials. Most
of these books and journals are in the open shelves. Readers have easy access
to the collections which are available for browsing at all the times.
The Library has computerized its
activities, stage by stage, beginning in 1986. It uses the Phoenix system
which provides an online integrated library system. The library provides an
Online Public Access Catalogue, known as KRISALIS. The University Sains
Malaysia Library system uses the Library of Congress Classification Scheme
and for the subject headings, the Library or Congress Subject Headings. In
addition to this, the Medical Library uses the National Library of Medicine
Classification Scheme.
